Sometimes the best meals are the ones that practically cook themselves. This Honey Garlic Chicken is one of those slow cooker staples—tender, flavorful, and sweet-savory perfection with hardly any effort. It’s terrific for busy weeks or when you need to clear out the fridge before heading back to work.
Ingredients
6–8 chicken thighs or drumsticks (bone-in or boneless)
1 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1 cup ketchup
3 teaspoons minced garlic
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
1 tablespoon cornstarch (for thickening, optional)
Directions
Prep the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, honey, and basil until well blended.
Add to slow cooker: Place chicken pieces in the slow cooker and pour the honey-garlic mixture evenly over top.
Cook: Cover and cook on high for 5 hours (or low for 6–7 hours) until the chicken is tender and easily pulls from the bone.
Thicken the sauce (optional): In a small bowl, dissolve 1 tablespoon of cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of water. Stir into the cooking liquid during the last 15 minutes.
Serve: Remove bones and skin if desired. Serve the chicken and thickened sauce over rice, quinoa, or wild rice for a simple, hearty meal.
Storage Tip
Cool completely, divide into individual portions, and freeze for quick, ready-to-reheat meals.
Sweet, sticky, and perfectly savory, this slow cooker chicken is comfort food made easy. Serve it over rice and let that glossy honey-garlic sauce bring everything together—you’ll want to make extra just to have leftovers for the freezer.
